Dostoevsky performs an autopsy on how ideology can drive the human soul into a demonic frenzy. His characters hide behind the fairy tale of saving the world while trying only to fill the dark, meaningless void inside them with blood. Cevvela knows the dark gem within a person; but instead of working that gem, ideology turns it into a “demon.” Today, too, you can decipher the rotten narcissism and cult of violence behind fanatical groups that set out in the name of saving the world. When unbelief turns ideology into a religion, only corpses are left behind.
