Canetti tears apart what we call power, showing that it is in fact nothing more than a paranoid desire to “survive.” The book shows how authority turns everyone around it into a victim simply in order to remain standing. Cevvela’s clash with that unjust order finds its full echo here. The moment you join the crowd, you are merely fuel to be burned so that the leader can survive.
