Nietzsche sets fire to the safe shelter called morality. He argues that what society calls “good” is in fact a cowardly lie invented by the weak — the herd — to protect themselves. Cevvela says “integrity is a matter of character”; Nietzsche cries out that this character can be built not by other people’s rules but by the individual’s own will. Going beyond good and evil does not mean being amoral; it means creating your own noble morality that does not depend on others’ approval. You startle as you realize how unhealthy a mechanism of obedience your effort to be a virtuous, docile, “good” person really is. Weakness is not goodness.
