Like a Descartes of Turkish literature, Anar buries the sentence “I think, therefore I am” in the heart of a fairy tale. Uzun İhsan Efendi’s dream is proof that the infinite gem within a person can create a reality greater than the world itself. While Cevvela seeks to awaken the gem within, Anar tells us that this gem is in fact the only thing that builds our dreams. You realize that the world you believe in and touch may be only someone’s dream — and that if you do not write your own dream, you will have to live in someone else’s nightmare. Whoever does not dream has not lived.
