Ellis splatters blood across capitalism’s sleek, flawless shop window. It is a repulsive yet tremendous book that documents the sociopathy produced by modern office towers and the obsession with image. Bateman is not a person; he is the system itself: flawless on the outside, utterly empty within. Cevvela says: “Being useful is not an image; it is a way of existing.” This book shows what those who are nothing but image eventually turn into — a monster. Reading it, the moral void behind the suits and luxury brands turns your stomach. A soulless consumer begins to consume other people as if they were objects too.
