Neuroceptionneuroception
Neuroception is the nervous system sensing danger or safety before conscious thought. This concept, coined by Porges, describes how our body constantly and unknowingly scans the environment, making an assessment of whether it is safe or dangerous. This sensing is not a conscious decision; it is a perception working beneath the body. Neuroception explains why we sometimes feel uneasy or at ease without knowing why. The body often decides on the safety of the environment before the mind notices.
