It’s a book that silences those cheap life coaches who tell you to “find your passion.” Mastery has nothing to do with being born talented; it’s about enduring tens of thousands of hours of boredom. He shows us da Vinci not as a god, but as an obsessive worker. Talent doesn’t gush forth from within you; you have to dig it out with a pickaxe. It tells you that the path is very long, dark, and lonely. You’re shaken by the thought of the years you’ve wasted, assuming you were talented but failing to put in the work.
