Sabahattin Ali delivers a literary slap in the face to prejudice. Inside Raif Efendi—whom the outside world labels “useless”—volcanoes are actually erupting. The author shows us just how repulsive that superficial system is, one that judges people solely by their outward appearance and social status. You’ll realize just how vast and fragile the worlds are within those quiet people you’ve carelessly passed by or belittled, and you’ll feel ashamed of your own arrogance. The greatest stories are hidden within the quietest people.
