Maalouf writes of the silent cry of people torn from their roots. Cevvela is a map of rootless souls—souls left unfulfilled because no one believed in them. Rebellion is not merely a political act; it is also the inner struggle a person wages against the sins and history of their own lineage. You come to feel how the rigid identities, flags, and borders you defend actually shatter that universal essence we call “human.” A person cannot belong to a place—only to another person.
